Superheroes have taken the spotlight at the annual Gingerbread Village in the lobby of the downtown Sheraton Seattle Hotel.

This year’s sweet edifices have “A Superhero Holiday” theme.

The display, now in its 16th year, raises money for the Northwest chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

One creation, “Santa Called in Sick … ” was put together by the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties. In it, Batman is driving Santa’s sleigh.

The display officially opens free to the public today at 1400 Sixth Ave., and runs through Jan. 4.
